Background

We started to purchase a few coffees from Bolivia this year, all produced by the Rodriguez family, and they have been really enjoyable! This is our final offering for the year.

The Rodriguez family started their coffee producing journey 38 years ago, and currently own 8 farms in Caranavi, one of which is Trapiche. Trapiche’s name was inspired by an Argentinian vineyeard that Pedro Rodriguez visited before setting up his new farm in 2016. The vineyard is the main inspiration for Pedro when he as developing the design for this land. The word “Trapiche” refers to a type of mill made of wooden rollers used to extract fruit juices.

Although Trapiche is a relatively young farm, its first harvests have yielded promising results. The weather conditions of Trapiche see huge variations in day and night temperatures, which allows for slower maturation of coffee cherries. The local soil is also rich in magnesium, which is great for coffee growing.

This particular lot we purchased has that characteristic red apple and nectarine flavour we got from our other Rodriguez coffees, with a firmly medium flavour intensity that a Bourbon varietal offers. We really enjoy this as an easy, everyday coffee.
