Background
Alo Coffee was started by Tamiru Tadesse in 2020, as a way of showcasing the coffees from his hometown. Alo Village is Tamiru’s processing site, where smallholder producers in the vicinity bring their cherries for post-harvest processing. Tamiru’s commitment to quality is clear: in 2021, he won Ethiopia’s first Cup of Excellence with an anaerobic, naturally processed lot just one year into Alo’s establishment! Tamiru’s coffees focus on a single heirloom varietal, 74158, developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (or JARC), for its disease resistsance and flavour quality. To us, this varietal presents a clear and distinctive flavour of ripe stonefruit, like peach. Alo is located at a high altitude of 2400 metres above sea level, resulting in sweet, dense and flavour-intense coffees.
This is a truly outstanding natural Ethiopian coffee, bursting with rich fruit flavours and a juicy mouthfeel. We could not be more honoured to be able to present Tamiru and his producers’ hard work to you.
