Background

This is our second coffee from Kenya, and it is a great example of the broad range of flavours Kenyan coffees can have from different growing regions!

This batch is from Kigari Teachers College which is located near Embu, where coffee growing benefits from high altitudes. While regions like Nyeri and Kirinyaga showcase coffees with classic Kenyan flavours of bright acidity and juicy mouthfeel, we find that this coffee from Embu has a deeper sweetness and weighted mouthfeel, in addition to a riper, rounder acidity.

Kigari Teachers College is a well-managed college that runs several businesses, including agriculture, education, and property rental. Active farmers deliver their harvested cherry to be processed at the Kigari Factory, and their farming plots are usually so small that measurements are based on the number of trees, not the area of land. Along with the 2-year old factory, the coffee produced at Kigari washing station is of high quality. This is most evident in the coffee’s sweetness, which provides depth to the coffee’s ripe acidity, its long, vanilla-like aftertaste, and its smooth, syrupy body.
