Background
This is our first offering from Guatemala, and it is from the famous coffee-growing region of Huehuetenango. Maria’s coffee comes to us by way of our friends from Shared Source, a green coffee trading company based in Melbourne and the US with a strong passion for equitable relationships with producers, regenerative agriculture, and high quality.
Maria’s farm is small, and she processes the coffee on her own with the help of her daughter, Carmen. She is a member of the ASODIETT cooperative, which is made up of 30 families and formed in 1995. The group recently purchased a 3-storey warehouse which will allow their members to store their coffees in cooler and more stable conditions, and they have a strong sense of solidarity and shared progress. The group practises the use of organic fertilisers to keep the coffee trees resilient and healthy.
Our experience with high quality Guatemalan coffees have always shown them to be sweet, round, structured, and incredibly balanced. Maria’s coffee is exactly that, and we love how rich it is in its mouthfeel. The acidity is ripe and smooth, with a deep sweetness to bring it all together. This is a truly delicious everyday coffee that is really easy to enjoy.
