Background
Osman is a young producer of 36 years old in the Santa Barbara region of Honduras. His mother started specialty coffee production in 2018 and seeing his mother’s success through San Vicente exports headed by rockstar Honduran producer Benjamin Paz, he decided to get involved in coffee production too. This is his fourth harvest and he has 2 farms. This particular lot we got is grown on higher elevation, and Osman only produces 1000 kg of green coffee a year, with just 20% of this being geisha. When our friends at Glyph Supply visited Osman last year, he was close to giving up on coffee production as a sustainable career because it is a lot of hard work - he does the pruning, fertilising and cleaning by himself with only 4 people helping him to pick coffee cherries; and the rewards are not the greatest. However, the Glyph team decided to buy his coffees at a profitable price, for their outstanding quality on the table - and it was also the first time Osman got to taste the results of his hard work. He is now encouraged to continue on with coffee production and we hope to see what the future brings for Osman and his family!
As a geisha varietal grown in Honduras, this coffee is quite different from your Panamanian geishas in 2 ways: it has a more weighted mouthfeel and the flavours are intense, sweet, and ripe. The florality of the varietal still shines through - the finish is long, lingering, and sweet, like lavender and violet. This coffee is bursting with flavours of blackforest dessert and tropical fruits.
