Ethiopia - Tigest Wako Bire

Background

Tigest Wako Bire is part of Nordic Approach’s first single-farmer project, launched in 2024. The aim of this project is to purchase coffee directly from these farmers, allowing them to act directly as exporters. Nordic Approach helps farmers, such as Tigest, find a financially rewarding market for their quality coffees while taking care of the burden of managing complex logistics and documentation in exporting their coffees. This was the biggest reason why we decided to purchase Tigest’s coffee.

Tigest is a coffee producer who is committed to quality. Her farm is 7.4 hectares in size and is located at 1962 metres above sea level in the fertile region of Jimma, in Yirgacheffe. Tigest has been in the top 150 candidates of the Cup of Excellence twice. Her goal is to increase productivity, and in 2023, her hard work paid off as she achieved an impressive annual production of 119.00 quintals of coffee. She hopes to become one of the best producers in Yirgacheffe.

This coffee really blew us away on the cupping table. It is sweet, complex, and incredibly ripe and aromatic. You can expect all the sweet fruit and floral flavours of a high quality Yirgacheffe heirloom coffee in this cup!
