Sitio Santa Marta is a small farm run by Marta, who is part of a shift in coffee farming in Brazil towards women taking leadership in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Marta’s farm is 45 hectares, with 20 hectares used to plant coffee and the rest kept as protected land to preserve biodiversity. Instead of relying on intermediaries, Marta is closely involved in the field and making quality-focused decisions.
Arara is a natural cross between Obata and Yellow Catuai. It is an important varietal in Brazil as it displays immunity to coffee leaf rust and good disease-resistance. Marta’s Arara is highly aromatic and fruity, and a distinctive example of how Brazilian coffee is not limited to chocolaty and nutty flavours.
