We welcome the Colombian harvest this year with an exciting varietal from Cauca, Colombia: Sudan Rume. James and his 8-hectare, high altitude farm, La Laja, is no stranger to us. James grew up surrounded by coffee growing parents and grandparents. Although his curiosity led him to explore other crops, he eventually returned to coffee, a crop to which he always felt a strong connection. Today, James’ curiosity is evident in his drive to grow exotic varietals on La Laja alongside more traditional ones, such as geisha, Bourbon Rosado and Bourbon Naranja. James’ washed Sudan Rume really highlights the sparkling, vibrant, and complex acidity the varietal is well-known for.
Sudan Rume is a rare and ancient landrace variety first discovered on South Sudan’s Boma plateau, and its inherent flavour traits are complex acidity, red fruit flavours, and floral notes. James’ Sudan Rume is a beautiful and classic representation of this varietal.
